Iceland: The Golden Circle

I got a bit off track with the daily Iceland posts and can't even remember how long we were there for now.

We did and saw so much that after almost three months it has all blurred into one awesome experience. In this post I will tell you about the Golden Circle as it was a MASSIVE day of driving and beauty.

We set off reasonably early using a vague destination on the sat nav to get us en route. We ended up going past the cute church from my Birthday explorations.

The first thing we came across waÞingvellir National Park. Which is where the North American and European Tectonic Plates meet. We found an information place where the lovely lady showed us a map and where we could explore. She recommended a route to continue along also.

There was literally not a single moment when we weren't surrounded by beauty. We came across some adorable Icelandic horses. One of which seemed to pose for us, until he got bored and sat on a fence instead. They are so FLUFFY!

We eventually made it to Geysir! I didn't realise we had arrived though and sped over a speed bump which made a loud bang noise against the car, and I had to slow quickly to avoid missing the turn into the car park. We were all sleepy and cold and windswept so we had some food first. We all chose the delicious fish soup which came in beautiful bowls. After an exploration of the shop we found the geysirs.

I was in need of a coffee to get me through the rest of the drive. It was just a short drive further to Gullfoss- The Golden Falls.

As you can see above, I wasn't keen on the real fur hats.
